The True North Story

It started with adversity

In March of 1991, Kristian Vicei was in a motorcycle accident that left him with a spinal cord injury. When ICBC was adversarial about his case, he and his mother were left with the daunting task of finding legal help to dispute the charges.

The doctor at his hospital gave Kristian three names of lawyers to look up. After speaking to each of them, the choice was clear. James (Jim) McNeney of McNeney & McNeney understood the negative stigma that is often associated with motorcyclists. He has always been involved in the motorcycle community. He created the British Columbia Coalition of Motorcyclists in 1985 and also started the Association for Injured Motorcyclists Vancouver. He is also involved in motorcycle injury prevention initiatives and lobbying for motorcyclists’ safety.

Providing compassionate counsel

Jim explained the legal situation very thoroughly, and showed genuine compassion for Kristian’s situation. There was no question that this was the right legal expert to represent him.

The opposition was relentless. As a young male riding a motorcycle, it seemed that everyone was against him. Kristian was charged with going too fast for the road conditions at the time of the accident, despite there being no evidence of his speed. Jim went to court and had the charge thrown out. He then went to the Supreme Court of British Columbia and won a fair settlement for Kristian.

Moving Forward

Through Kristian’s recovery, he realized that he wanted to help others the way that his lawyer had helped him. That’s when he decided to get a law degree and start practicing law. As someone who has been through the trying process of recovery while fighting a legal battle, he hopes to bring another level of understanding and assistance to his clients.

Kristian has teamed up with his former lawyer, James McNeney, to form True North Injury Lawyers. Together, they help their clients through the legal system to give them the opportunity to move forward.
